The Rock of Guatapé
The main attraction is undoubtedly the majestic rock of Guatapé, also known as El Peñol. It may look daunting at first, but the climb up the 740 steps to the top is well worth it. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the picturesque lakescape with its numerous islets. Admission to El Peñol costs just under 18,000 COP (~ €4). To get to the rock, it is best to take the bus from Guatapé to Medellin or to get off the bus coming from Medellin a little before Guatapé. The bus drivers can also help you there.

The heart of Guatapé is the main square, surrounded by restaurants, cafes and souvenir stores. The houses in Guatapé are famous for their ornate facades, decorated with vivid frescoes and decorative moldings. The people of Guatapé are proud of their traditions and folklore. Besides the village and the rock, a boat tour is actually part of the standard program in Guatapé. We decided against it because of the crowds. However, the trip to secret bays is supposed to be very beautiful.

Water sports enthusiasts can enjoy kayaking, jet skiing or wakeboarding in the nearby El Peñol reservoir. or the more adventurous, there are even opportunities for rock climbing and bungee jumping from the top of the cliff. Arrival to Guatapé
The easiest way to get there is by bus from Medellin. For this you have to go to the Terminal del Norte (located at the metro station Caribe). The trip takes about 2 hours and there are several buses daily.
