Known for its vibrant colors, idyllic surroundings and cultural charm, Guatap\u00e9 has everything that makes it a worthwhile destination. The landmark of the place is, of course, the Rock of Guatap\u00e9 also known as El Pe\u00f1ol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the first things that will excite you in Guatap\u00e9 is undoubtedly the architecture. Colorful, hand-painted brick houses with ornate reliefs adorn the streets and give the city a unique atmosphere. These colorful buildings tell stories and reflect the vibrant culture and history of the region. But you should also be prepared that you won&#8217;t be alone in Guatap\u00e9. It may look daunting at first, but the climb up the 740 steps to the top is well worth it. Once at the top, you&#8217;ll be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the picturesque lakescape with its numerous islets.  Admission to El Pe\u00f1ol costs just under 18,000 COP (~ \u20ac4). To get to the rock, it is best to take the bus from Guatap\u00e9 to Medellin or to get off the bus coming from Medellin a little before Guatap\u00e9. The houses in Guatap\u00e9 are famous for their ornate facades, decorated with vivid frescoes and decorative moldings. The people of Guatap\u00e9 are proud of their traditions and folklore. We decided against it because of the crowds. However, the trip to secret bays is supposed to be very beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Water sports on the lakes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The water sports are especially popular with locals.  Water sports enthusiasts can enjoy kayaking, jet skiing or wakeboarding in the nearby El Pe\u00f1ol reservoir. or the more adventurous, there are even opportunities for rock climbing and bungee jumping from the top of the cliff. You can also make a trip by boat and explore the secret coves and islands. In Guatap\u00e9 everyone gets his money&#8217;s worth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guatap\u00e9&#8217;s nightlife is another attraction that draws backpackers. The city offers a variety of bars where you can meet other travelers and enjoy the lively ambiance. Listen to the Latin American sounds, dance to salsa or reggaeton and immerse yourself in the vibrant nightlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During your stay in Guatap\u00e9 you should also try the local cuisine. There are numerous restaurants that serve traditional Colombian dishes. From delicious arepas to bandeja paisa and fresh seafood, you&#8217;ll find something for everyone. Let yourself be tempted by the culinary gen<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Arrival to Guatap\u00e9<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The easiest way to get there is by bus from Medellin. For this you have to go to the Terminal del Norte (located at the metro station Caribe). The trip takes about 2 hours and there are several buses daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Guatap\u00e9 with a tour or on your own?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone who has poked around our blog so far will surely know the answer.
